Known error's that are currently being investigated and in process of being resolved by the development team:
This is a list of known error/issues that you will see on your staging sites after the upgrade to v18.2, these error's will however be resolved before upgrading your live site in the future. We would still recommend testing on your staging site even with the below present.
CLS Theme
With v18 Totara has introduced changes to the core theme, with the CLS theme being built from the core theme and still using some of the same code, some of the changes that were introduced with v18 have also affected our theme. This has caused some of the features in our theme to not work or be affected in a way that might not break the function but make it work in an unexpected way. This include -
- The block header back colour, will now cause a over lap with the borders of the blocks. This is caused by Totara introducing a border radius that curves the edge of certain blocks on the site, with our theme working off of the older version were the edges were not curved when enabling a background colour for block headers the colour will have edges well the actually outline of the block will not.
- Breadcrumb background colour, This will cause the background colour of the breadcrumb to stretch across the top area of the screen if the background colour is enabled.
- Report tile number, This will cause the report tile number setting in the Theme to not take effect and the tiles on the 'My reports' page will be restricted to the default 6 per row.
- Report tile colour, This will cause the report tile colour setting in the Theme to not take effect and the tiles will remain with the colours in the default Totara theme.
- Report tile border colour, This will cause the report tile border colour setting in the Theme to not take effect and the tiles on the 'My reports' page will remain the default colour in the core Totara theme.
- Report tile font colour, This will cause the report tile font colour setting in the Theme to not take effect and the tiles on the 'My reports' page will remain the colours in the core Totara theme.
- Report IMG section, This will cause all the options in the Report IMG section of the theme to not take effect and revert to the defaults in the Totara core theme.
- Footer left and right image, Due to changes in the core theme the images will now all be pushed into the far left of the footer and will then appears on top and bottom of the footer.
CLS Reports
With v18 there was a changed made by Totara to certain statues in the database this has caused errors for some reports that relied on those status, these can be found below -
- Certification Completion Seminar, can cause an error to appear on the admin report builder page(/totara/reportbuilder/index.php) that makes the page inaccessible. An error will also appear on trying to create the report and will prevent users from creating a report with that source.
- CLS User Certification (RAG), Error appears upon viewing the report on the first page, the results will still load however we have found that this can effect the report view.
- CLS Record of Learning: Certif Launch, an error will appear on trying to create the report and will prevent users from creating a report with that source.
- CLS Record of Learning: Programs Launch, an error will appear on trying to create the report and will prevent users from creating a report with that source.
- CLS Program Completion, an error will appear on trying to create the report and will prevent users from creating a report with that source.
- CLS Certif and Prog Completions, an error will appear upon viewing the report. The results will load but this might effect the view of the report.
- CLS Course Total AVG Quiz (INC History), NULL message's are display above the report table upon view. The report will still function and show results.
- CLS Quiz Percentage (Inc History), NULL message's are display above the report table upon view. The report will still function and show results.
- CLS User Certification and Programs (RAG), Error upon creation or viewing of report. Results are still loaded, however the view might be affected due to the error.
CLS Blocks
Some blocks might be affected from the upgrade due to changes in core function or code.
- CLS Ticker, Existing issue carried over from v17.13 upgrades and still being investigated by the development team. This will cause the ticker to not load when configured.
CLS Modules
Due to changes in code and core functionality some modules might be affected.
- Error appears when a Manager tries to approve/decline a from and complete their stage. The stage is not submitted and the form will be stuck on the manager stage.
Upgrade advice & General recommendations for testing and consideration:
With the upgrade comes new functionality from Totara as well as some fixes from ourselves, below we will have some points that we would recommend thinking about and actioning if possible before the upgrade to v18.2 on your live sites.

Auto Job Manager
With auto job manager in v17.13, we noticed some odd behaviour with the auto suspend and un-suspend functionality. This would cause issues when setting up the plugin for a brand new site that hadn't had information filled in for accounts, this could lead to mass suspension of accounts. To resolve this we have now made it so that the suspend and un-suspend are now two different settings instead of one and can be configured separately, this will mean that when setting up the plugin we can keep un-suspend disabled until data has been added to accounts. We would highly recommend that anyone who wants to use this feature test on staging first, including sites who already have Auto Job Manager in use on live.
Login Page Image
With the Changes to the Core theme, the main login page has been completely redesigned if you use the 'login page image' feature. The image will no longer be a banner style near the top of the page under the menu bar, It will now be a 2/3rd page spread to the right hand side of the page. This cannot be changed. For many of you that use the 'login page image' setting this might mean that you have to design an image or change the currently being used image, we would highly recommend checking this and making sure that you have the image prepared before the upgrade to live.
Legacy Appraisal activities
As of the upgrade to v18 the legacy Appraisal feature in core Totara will be going into a read only mode, this will mean that no new instances or activities will be able to be created and leaners/managers will be unable to access and update forms. This mean that if you are currently using this feature you will most likely need to move to using Totara perform, if help or guidance is needed for this please contact the Helpdesk and we will be able to get you in contact with a learning consultant to go through all the steps needed to move over.
